Poker Hand Rankings

The Ranking of Hands in Poker

When you play poker you use a standard 52 card deck. The cards are ranked as follows (with ace being high):

A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2

Poker hands consist of 5 cards. Below you will find the ranking of poker hands. The hands are listed from the highest ranked hand down to the lowest ranked poker hand. Always remember that poker hands are always made from five cards. If two players have the same hand e.g. three of a kind (also known as trips) then the winner of the hand is decided by whoever has the highest kicker card. For example if the board reads:

2 5 8 8 A

If player A holds: 8K
and player B holds: 83

Then the winner of the pot is player A who holds K8.
